Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto - Boettcher Concert Hall, 1000 14th St, Denver CO 80202

Music Director Brett Mitchell and your Colorado Symphony are joined by Angelo Xiang Yu, for his highly-anticipated return to Denver as featured soloist on Tchaikovsky’s colorful Violin Concerto — a piece initially considered so difficult to perform that the premiere was delayed after Tchaikovsky’s first two soloists declined the invitation. The program begins with one of Verdi’s finest symphonic introductions, incorporating the “Fate” motif that plays such a large role in La forza del destino, while Jennifer Higdon’s Concerto for Orchestra concludes the affair with an ever-changing instrumental panoply complete with a percussion-only fourth movement that will leave you spellbound.

After forming in Buffalo in 2006, Aqueous (pronounced “ay-kwee-us”) has earned a reputation as one of the most promising improvisational rock acts in the country. Best known for their “groove rock” stylings, guitarist Mike Gantzer, guitarist/keyboardist David Loss, bassist Evan McPhaden, and drummer Rob Houk have developed a unique sound characterized by meticulous compositions and rich exploratory jams that easily transition from laidback, in-the-pocket grooves to furious, high-intensity peaks.

The Last Waltz - Boulder Theater, 2032 14th St, Boulder CO 80302

Back in 2005, Denver's “number one jamband,” Polytoxic, wanted to put on a show that could showcase all the great local musicians they had been playing with for the past few years. They decided to re-enact The Band's "The Last Waltz," a concert film by Martin Scorsese of The Band's last performance that included all of that era's greatest musicians - Eric Clapton, Dr John, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, etc. The show was held at Dulcinea's in Denver's Capitol Hill area on May 25, 2005, and Polytoxic planned on it being a fun little show that would garner a little bit of interest. It sold out in minutes, surprising the band and fans alike, and became the biggest show they had ever thrown. So big, in fact, they decided to do it again in 2005, this time on the night before Thanksgiving at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom.

Ekali - Boulder Theater, 2032 14th St, Boulder CO 80302

Ekali is more than just an alter ego for musician Nathan Shaw. It's not only the name for an electronic production project that -- just a few months after posting his first track -- brought a level of recognition that most artists spend a career dreaming about. It's also a reflection of a remarkable musical journey that's led him far outside the crowded beat-making field.
